BIG NEWS: Peter Johnston Nominated for a 2026 AWGIE Award for Zip and the Tiny Sprouts!

Fade In Studio’s very own showrunner and writer is recognized by the Australian Writers’ Guild for excellence in Children’s Television.

We are beyond excited to announce that Peter Johnston has been officially nominated for a 2026 AWGIE Award!

Peter has been recognized in the Children’s Television – ‘P’ Classification (Preschool) category for his incredible work penning the Zip and the Tiny Sprouts episode, “Everything Keeps Changing?!”.

The AWGIE Awards are unique—they are the only Australian industry awards judged entirely by writers, based purely on the written script. To see Peter’s name on this year’s shortlist is a massive honor and a testament to the heart, humor, and craft he brings to our studio every single day.

Why “Everything Keeps Changing?!” Stands Out

Writing for preschoolers is an art form. It requires distilling big, overwhelming emotions into digestible, entertaining, and highly visual stories. In “Everything Keeps Changing?!”, Peter masterfully tackles the universally daunting concept of change. With sharp pacing, laugh-out-loud dialogue, and a deep sense of empathy for its young audience, the script perfectly captures what makes Zip and the Tiny Sprouts so special.

Peter doesn’t write down to kids; he writes for them, treating their daily hurdles with the narrative respect they deserve.

A Win for Writer-Driven Animation at Fade In Studio

At Fade In Studio, we believe that the best animation in the world falls flat without a bulletproof script. Story is our foundation. This nomination proves that digital-first series can, and should, stand toe-to-toe with the best broadcast television when it comes to narrative excellence.

Peter’s leadership and vision as a showrunner have elevated Zip and the Tiny Sprouts into an award-winning property, and we are incredibly proud to have him steering the ship. His dedication to character-driven storytelling sets the gold standard for our entire production pipeline, from the first fade-in on the page to the final render.

A huge congratulations to Peter on this well-deserved nomination, and a massive shoutout to the Australian Writers’ Guild for supporting and celebrating children’s television writers.

Stay tuned, and cross your fingers for us!
